MEET THE

KEYNOTES

Ngaliju ('us two') is a cross-cultural collaboration between Thiinma Elder Peter Salmon, from the Upper Gascoyne & Rosie Sitorus, a Midwest-based musician & linguist. They will be joined by members of Peter’s family, who are learning from their nyami about Country, culture and language, and following in his footsteps as a leader of his People.

Mr Salmon, a 92 year old stockman & award-winning songwriter, appeared on ABC TV’s The Piano earlier this year with his long-time collaborator Rosie. The performance of their original song ‘Warri Yungu, Warri Paba’, written in Thiinma as a lament for Peter’s Country and his Old People, won them accolades from around the globe, shining a hard-won light on the humble, unwavering love this incredible old man has for his yalha (land).

Together, Peter and Rosie spin yarns and write songs spanning more than a century of life on the land, weaving effortlessly between joy, heartbreak and resolve. Their irresistible banter (and Peter’s bushman charm!) exemplify the power of connection, culture and Country in keeping wiyurrba pagalya (spirit strong).
